Food & Allergens Policy

Last updated 07 July 2026

1. Our Commitment

Giggle Wiggle & Grow is committed to providing a safe, clean and welcoming café and play environment for children, families and visitors.

We understand that food allergies, intolerances and dietary requirements must be taken seriously. We aim to provide clear information, handle food safely and support families in making informed choices.

This policy applies to food and drink served or consumed at Giggle Wiggle & Grow, including during soft play sessions, café visits, parties, group bookings, school holiday activities and HAF-funded provision.

2. Food and Drink on the Premises

Only food and drink purchased from Giggle Wiggle & Grow café may be consumed on the premises, unless an exception has been agreed in advance or is covered by this policy.

This rule helps us manage food hygiene, allergens, cleanliness, pest control and the safety of children using the play areas.

Exceptions may include:

  • baby food;

  • food required for medical reasons;

  • essential dietary items for a child;

  • birthday cake for a pre-booked party, where agreed;

  • food required as part of agreed SEND, allergy or HAF support arrangements.

No food or drink should be taken into the soft play areas, imagination village or other play zones.

3. Baby Food

Baby food may be brought onto the premises.

If you need baby food warming, please speak to a member of staff. We will be happy to help where possible.

Parents and carers remain responsible for checking that the baby food is suitable for their child and that the temperature is safe before feeding.

Giggle Wiggle & Grow cannot accept responsibility for the ingredients, preparation or suitability of baby food supplied by parents or carers.

4. Allergies, Intolerances and Dietary Requirements

Parents, carers and visitors must inform a member of staff about any allergies, intolerances or dietary requirements before ordering food or drinks.

Where a child is attending a party, group booking, HAF-funded place or school holiday provision, allergy and dietary information should be provided in advance wherever possible.

We will take reasonable care when preparing and serving food and drinks. However, our kitchen and café handle a range of ingredients and allergens, and we cannot guarantee that any food or drink item is completely free from traces of allergens.

Customers must not rely on assumptions about ingredients, menu descriptions or previous visits, as ingredients, products and suppliers may change.

5. Allergen Information

Allergen information will be made available to customers where required.

If you need allergen information, please speak to a member of staff before placing your order. Staff will provide the information available and help you make an informed choice.

If we are unable to confirm whether a food or drink item is suitable for a specific allergy or dietary requirement, we may advise that the item is not ordered.

6. The 14 Regulated Allergens

Some food and drink served at Giggle Wiggle & Grow may contain, or may have come into contact with, the 14 regulated allergens:

  • celery;

  • cereals containing gluten, such as wheat, rye, barley and oats;

  • crustaceans;

  • eggs;

  • fish;

  • lupin;

  • milk;

  • molluscs;

  • mustard;

  • peanuts;

  • sesame;

  • soybeans;

  • sulphur dioxide and sulphites;

  • tree nuts, such as almonds, hazelnuts, walnuts, cashews, pecans, Brazil nuts, pistachios and macadamia nuts.

Please speak to staff before ordering if you or your child has any allergy, intolerance or dietary requirement.

7. Cross-Contamination

We take reasonable steps to reduce the risk of allergen cross-contamination. This may include careful food handling, cleaning, staff awareness and checking allergen information.

However, because our café and kitchen handle different foods and allergens, we cannot guarantee a completely allergen-free environment.

Parents, carers and visitors with serious allergies should speak to a member of staff before ordering or attending a party, group booking, HAF session or holiday provision.

8. Food and Drink in Play Areas

Food and drink must only be consumed in the café and seating areas.

Food and drink must not be taken into the soft play areas, imagination village, stairs, play zones or other areas where children are playing.

This helps reduce the risk of:

  • choking;

  • spillages;

  • slips and falls;

  • contamination of play equipment;

  • allergen exposure;

  • damage to equipment;

  • pests and hygiene issues.

Parents and carers are responsible for supervising children while eating and drinking.

9. Birthday Cakes

Customers may bring a birthday cake for a pre-booked party where this has been agreed with Giggle Wiggle & Grow.

A full ingredients list must be provided for any cake brought onto the premises. This helps us support allergy awareness and food safety.

No other outside food or drink is permitted for parties unless agreed in advance.

Giggle Wiggle & Grow accepts no responsibility for the ingredients, preparation, storage, allergen content or suitability of cakes supplied by customers or third-party suppliers.

Parents and carers remain responsible for deciding whether a child should eat cake or any other food supplied as part of a party.

10. Parties and Group Bookings

For parties and group bookings, parents and carers must provide details of any allergies, intolerances or dietary requirements at least 7 days before the booking wherever possible.

This helps us plan food safely and consider whether suitable alternatives can be provided.

If allergy or dietary information is provided late, we will do our best to help, but we may not always be able to provide suitable alternatives at short notice.

The party organiser is responsible for making sure any relevant allergy or dietary information is shared with Giggle Wiggle & Grow in advance.

11. HAF and School Holiday Provision

Where Giggle Wiggle & Grow provides HAF-funded places or school holiday provision, food and drink may form part of the session.

Parents and carers must provide accurate allergy, dietary and medical information when booking or registering a child for HAF or holiday provision.

We will aim to support children with dietary requirements wherever possible. However, parents and carers should contact us before booking where a child has:

  • a serious allergy;

  • a complex medical dietary requirement;

  • a history of anaphylaxis;

  • a prescribed adrenaline auto-injector;

  • SEND-related food needs;

  • sensory food needs;

  • religious or cultural dietary requirements.

This allows us to discuss whether suitable arrangements can be made before the child attends.

12. Medication and Emergency Allergy Care

Parents and carers of children with prescribed emergency medication, such as an adrenaline auto-injector or inhaler, should ensure this is brought to the venue where required.

Staff must be informed about any emergency medication, where it is kept and how it should be used.

Medication should be clearly labelled and provided in its original packaging where possible.

If a child or visitor appears to be having an allergic reaction or medical emergency, staff should be informed immediately.

In an emergency, staff may call 999.

13. Customer Responsibilities

Parents, carers and visitors are responsible for:

  • telling staff about allergies, intolerances and dietary requirements before ordering;

  • providing accurate information when booking parties, group sessions, HAF places or holiday provision;

  • updating Giggle Wiggle & Grow if allergy, dietary or medical information changes;

  • supervising children while eating and drinking;

  • making sure children do not take food or drink into play areas;

  • checking that food and drink is suitable before giving it to a child;

  • informing staff immediately if they believe a child is having an allergic reaction or medical emergency.

14. Staff Responsibilities

Giggle Wiggle & Grow staff should:

  • take allergy and dietary information seriously;

  • provide allergen information where available;

  • check information before advising customers;

  • avoid guessing about ingredients or allergens;

  • follow food hygiene and cleaning procedures;

  • report any food safety, hygiene or allergen concerns to management;

  • seek emergency help where required.

15. Food Hygiene and Cleanliness

Giggle Wiggle & Grow will aim to maintain good food hygiene standards across the café and food service areas.

This may include:

  • regular cleaning of food preparation and serving areas;

  • appropriate storage of food and drink;

  • handwashing and personal hygiene procedures;

  • safe handling of food and drinks;

  • cleaning spillages promptly;

  • keeping food and drink away from play areas;

  • following relevant food safety procedures.

Visitors are asked to help us keep the venue clean by using bins provided, reporting spillages and ensuring children eat only in the café or seating areas.

16. Changes to Menus, Ingredients and Suppliers

Menus, products, ingredients and suppliers may change from time to time.

Because of this, visitors with allergies, intolerances or dietary requirements should speak to staff every time they visit, even if they have eaten the same item before.

17. Review of This Policy

This policy will be reviewed regularly and updated where necessary, including where there are changes to:

  • food provision;

  • menu items;

  • suppliers;

  • legal requirements;

  • food safety guidance;

  • HAF requirements;

  • the way Giggle Wiggle & Grow operates.
